Madness roll over Flibbertigibbets 35-10
Let's face it, the Flibbertigibbets were lucky to get into the tournament and were much too flighty to challenge most teams, especially the Madness. It was over early.
Punters harass the Bastards 21-19
A little bit of a surprise. The Bastards certainly had potential and may have been looking forward to a match up with the Madness. The Punters baffled, annoyed, and ultimately rattled the usually strong Bastards. The Bastards were playing catch up all game.
Drunkards stumble by Fools 6-3
Truly an ugly game, but it was expected. All points were scored accidentally and neither team really knew or understood the rules. A lot of turnovers and cussing. The Fools lost their lead late in the fourth quarter when they tried to make up their own rules and allowed the Drunkards to walk into the end zone.
Mood Swings rattle the Rage 17-7
Many people said the Rage would go all the way or lose early. The latter is what occurred. While the Mood Swings used their unpredictable style to improvise in the pocket, the Rage turned on themselves--sending much of their own team to the hospital. The Rage was a self inflicted bloody mess by the end of regulation.
Paranoia outlast the Bullocks 45-38
What was supposed to be a tune up for the Paranoia turned into a game of no defense. Each team threw out every strange play in the book. The Paranoia stayed ahead with their trick plays, but the Bullocks always had an answer until the final minutes.
Disillusionment smother Tantrums 16-3
All the Disillusionment had to do was get the lead, and they did that in the second quarter. The Tantrums proved they cannot come back from any deficit. The Tantrums couldn't get anything done in the second half and had negative yards for the fourth quarter. Disillusionment matched up well with the Tantrums' chaotic defense in this one.
Politics baffle Wisdom 24-14
Easily the biggest shocker of the first round. Wisdom had all the tools of a championship team, but Politics came out with the better game plan. Wisdom had to keep guessing (wrong as it turned out) as Politics used its irrationality to score big in the first half. Bill said after the game, "The Politics strategy never made sense to us, and yet they whipped us good."
Crap stinks up Darkness 31-10
The Darkness tried to hide its weaknesses, but the Crap exploited them all. The Crap had more fire power, more stamina, and more ball control. A late touchdown in the first half stained the Darkness, and they couldn't get the smell off for the rest of the game.
