And the seven seas

"Weird music for weird people" is how the band describes its sound. I don't quite agree; this is ruminative post-rock that lurches into kraut, noise, space or jazz territory as the band sees fit. Okay, so maybe that is weird. I'll certainly accept the "weird" moniker when describing myself, so why can't someone else be weird as well?

(Broken Clover Records)

Tutupatu hails from Madrid, but really this is world music. As in music that is inspired by movements from around the world. Twenty years ago there were many bands that wandered through these waters. Nowadays it's much cooler to explore these ideas in a purely electronic sense rather than with analog instruments.

But, yeah, I'm a fan of the minutes-long guitar distortion lines, the very deliberate pacing of these pieces and the precise nature of the arrangements. Tutupatu controls its universe entirely, even as it allows listeners plenty of room to meander.

Are you weird, or do you just appreciate music that doesn't conform to any particular style? Either way, Tutupatu is likely on your wavelength. The journey is long and extremely pleasurable. Settle in and take in all the scenery.
