1/29/24:
Gazing into the black

A one-man blackgaze (a term I was happy to discover) act from Italy, Fugit puts melodic elements in the front of the mix, allowing them to surf on waves of black metal dissonance. In many ways, there's so much going on here that it's hard to imagine satisfying anyone.

Unless you happen to be a person who appreciates the beauty of mashups of incompatible sounds. And begin to realize that pretty much all sounds are compatible. Andrea Milan does almost all the work here (a certain C.C. adds some vocals), and the equal emphasis on beauty and destruction is palpably blood-raising.

In general, there are few sharp edges to the sound, though when the black scrim recedes, the gothic industrial bits can take a bite. I have heard many renditions of this sound over the last couple of years, and Milan is certainly the most committed to melody of the bunch. The melodies often seem to have little to do with the chaos in back, but I like the challenge of marrying the sides together.

Yeah, it's gothic industrial shoegaze black metal. Though I really do like "blackgaze". That's an elegant way to encapsulate a hairy and cacophonous brew. This one is for the sonic adventurers. Your ears will be greatly rewarded.
