11/30/23:
A deconstructive twist

Twenty-four pieces that generally clock in at under a minute. Tar Of is a Brooklyn duo that set out to create a completely absurd and non-serious album. Mission accomplished.

Confidence Freaks Me Out
(self-released)

There are notes on exactly how the pieces were conceived and deconstructed, but it's much more fun just to hear these bits and pieces play out on their own. The chaos is liberating--and stimulating.

Does anything here make sense? Maybe after the first ten pieces or so. Perhaps that's simply getting used to the concept, though. After all, when a band intentionally sabotages its own songs in the name of art, sense is pretty much out the window.

These adventurous pieces are intriguing, however. There are many fragmented flights of beauty, and many of the songs here have pieces of sparkling hooks. That Tar Of removed the integral parts of said hooks is both confounding and exhilarating. Weird, and delightfully so.
