11/27/23:
A fulsome wander

The Spacelords are yet another Brooklyn hipster loud music project (calling this psychedelic stoner prog jam rock "metal" is kinda missing the point) that takes wiggy experimentation to another planet. The four songs clock in at nine minutes or longer. They begin simply and then move about with confidence.

Nectar of the Gods
(self-released)

Few bands are named as appropriately as these guys. They could out-Hawkwind Hawkwind, though I think their influences are much more wide-ranging. The band builds on a Geezer-esque bass burble, adding line after line and then expanding further, often to the point of possible collapse.

But each journey is landed with skill and panache. The bright, rounded sound really helps flesh out the lines, and it lends a warm feel in general. These are other worlds, but theyre a joy to visit.

This is the band's ninth album, and it has honed its attack. Rather than plowing new fields, the Spacelords are content to spin ever-more intricate tales within their own universe. Hop aboard and see the sights. The soundtrack is sublime.
