11/2/23:
Familiar, yet golden

If you know the Faces, you know Diamond Dogs. This Swedish band has been playing this rootsy, glam-tinged early 70s-style for a long time (they're up to album #14), and this is just the latest installment.

About the Hardest Nut to Crack
(Wild Kingdom/Sound Pollution)

Diamond Dogs don't complicate the formula, and they simply crank out bouncy sing-alongs that are almost impossible to shake out of the ears. While there are obvious comparisons to all-time glam heavyweights, the occasional lighter touch is what keeps bringing me back to the Faces.

And that's a really great place to be. The production is a bit rough-hewn, which suits these raucous songs just fine. There is absolutely no new ground plowed here, just a classic style done perfectly.

So, yeah, this is tres 1973. I imagine most readers will roll their eyes. Give a listen. This is music for moving and grooving, and I think you might find it hard to avoid the urge. Total fun, with none of the guilt.
