5/8/23:
Novel use of materials

Slicing and dicing its way through a wide variety of musical styles (with a worldwide focus), this pair of Turkish producers (not related despite the name) has created another branch of the electro-roots tree. There are hints of ElectroBluesSociety, which is not surprising given the personal connections and musicological similarities between the two.

Tabiat Brothers
A Chica Cobra
(Bone Union)

Tabiat Brothers goes for more of an organic sound, but it also reaches further for its source materials. These songs are less electronic jams than cultural mashups. No need to worry about appropriation…all of the lines and styles are stripped of context and radically reconfigured. This is deconstruction (and reconstruction) at its most creative.

There is a chill vibe that permeates. Despite the flurry of ideas, they seem to leisurely wander by. This unhurried meander allows a lot of room for rumination. It's amazing that so many bits and pieces can be woven together into a strikingly coherent finish.

For me, that's the most impressive thing. The music itself is fresh, original and just about impossible to turn off. It's impossible to conceive of how much effort went into making these songs sound so obvious. Some people just have the touch. This charmer smokes.
