While I would put this into the experimental electronic drawer (as does Frank Cogliano), that association is a bit uneasy. Cogliano uses plenty of analog inputs and sounds to build his pieces, and the results have an intensely organic feel.

And these aren't songs. They're more sketches and pieces of ideas. Ten of the seventeen tracks clock in at less than two minutes long. Perfect for those with short attention spans, but even better for those who want to hear just how far Cogliano is able to take his ideas.

Not to much to the extreme, but just in unexpected ways. Some vocoder (or a similar effect) here, a bit of distortion wash there--Cogliano seems as comfortable in the 70s or the 90s or today. His music seems to sit outside of time. Not a time machine, but more of an archaeologist.

It does sound like he has uncovered many of these pieces. Often an idea bursts forth as if it is a brilliant new discovery. And maybe it is. I'm not sure what world Cogliano inhabits, but I'm happy to visit his realm any time.
