11/4/21:
Redeconstruction

Lauren Medsker and Rick Mitchell are veterans of the Philly music scene. Well, Mitchell is. Medsker is a visual artist, but creative is creative, right? Judging by this album, the answer is yes.

Broke Bldgs
Resurrect Dead
(self-released)

Starting with the clean lines of early techno, Broke Bldgs draws from industrial, ambient and punk influences. Sometimes there are vocals, but more often there aren't. No worries. The ideas in these songs are expressed with extreme clarity. Even when these songs get busy, they never forget their destination.

This nifty, minimalist approach creates a superhighway to the subconscious. Almost hypnotic in their insistence, these songs burrow into the brain and quickly take up residence. Resistance is not just futile, it's completely undesirable.

Fans of melody or obvious hooks will have to go elsewhere. Broke Bldgs sets out its path and sticks to it. If you're wondering what New Order might have sounded like as a bass-less experimental outfit, this might be an answer. Cheekily engaging and wrigglingly delicious.
