9/30/21:
They've got it

Much of the press surrounding this set has to do with Andrew Krull's non-binary gender fluidity. That's only reasonable, as the topic permeates these songs. But what impresses me even more is the music, which Krull largely played themselves.

It All Goes EP
(self-released)

Matching largely-acoustic ramblers with Nick Drake-ish harmony-laden vocals, these songs ring with truth. Sounding at once ancient and modern, the timeless feel is enhanced by Krull's reliance on fiddle and mandolin as musical drivers.

Krull doesn't waste time. Each of these five songs clocks in at less than four minutes, and that economical approach does lead to a sense of wanting (and even longing) in the listener. There should be more. There must be more.

Regular readers know that I don't pay much attention to lyrics. Krull's introspective songs are affirming, but they're more interesting for what they don't say. These aren't polemics. They're scenes from a life. A life that really ought to contain more songs. Soon.
