Glazy daze

The vague haze that wafts through GrandEvolution's songs probably leads a few to toss this band into the shoegaze bin. In truth, GrandEvolution has a lot more to do with the anthemic power pop bands of the late 90s (Luna being one of the most prominent and probably most solid comps, given that band's previous incarnation as one of the seminal shoegaze bands). Also, this trio has been bashing around the northeast for a few years.

Glow
(self-released)

This is the band's seventh full-length album, and the assured confidence of experience rings throughout. These well-crafted songs are played with deft energy, making sure that every single one hits the peak at just the right time.

Does that make this a bit workmanlike? Yeah, I guess. But that small bit of predictability is overshadowed by the propulsive nature of the songs. Rarely shifting past mid-tempo, Glow still manages to get the heart racing.

The complete package. GrandEvolution is entirely comfortable in its own skin, and this album is just another extension of that. The writing, playing, arranging and production are all top notch. Settle in and prepare to be enveloped in wonder.
