3/8/21:
Beyond the past

Another short set from these Dutch producers. This time, they're melding delta blues with their trademark spacey electronic beats. Kinda like the R.L. Burnside remix album Come On In, but with the BA boys handling all the instruments and John Blake wailing in a non-spliced way.

So not a remix set, but more of an organic affair. I'm always curious about the original elements preserved by folks who this sort of assembling. Clearly, BLu ACiD finds the soul of the blues in the vocals and not the guitar. And so that's where these four songs are hung.

The final track, "No Time" dispenses with most analog instruments and simply drops Blake into an EDM funk zone (with occasional fuzz guitar). It is the most experimental track on the EP, and at first listen it feels like an afterthought. After a few revolutions, however, I think it stands well as a summation of sorts.

The output from these guys is sporadic and frustratingly so. But that just ramps up the expectation when something new arrives. Certainly worth the wait.
