10/29/20:
Call it a groove, call it a rut . . .

Regular readers might have noticed a heavy dose of metal and dark electronic releases in the recent review piles. I could be an asshole and say, "that's what's good these days", but I think the truth is that my ears (and brain) have needed that outlet. So anyway, here's another electronic set--but one that is not entirely dark and foreboding.

David Thompson
The Wall EP
(self-released)

David Thompson has a knack for blistering keyboard hooks, but his vocals are much more understated. There's a definite electronic new wave feel to the construction of these songs, but the production is much more modern and rock-oriented. Thompson is really good at dressing things up with what at first appears to be a tangent and then morphs into a major theme.

Yeah, this is still COVID-related (see the cover, etc.). I don't think there is any way to get around that these days. But despite the occasional downer in the lyrics, these songs provide a much-needed salve for the soul.

I promise to try and find a better space for my head. Listening to more sets like this ought to help. David Thompson is a man of the times, but he's also able to see around the corner. I think we could all use a little help that way right now.
