3/26/20:
Hits the spot

I've always been a sucker for Roxy Music. Jupe Jupe steals that sweeping style and lays it over some jaunty electropop. Like some of the best Flock of Seagulls. I'm pretty sure these guys don't mind those references.

Jupe Jupe
Nightfall EP
(self-released)

No great leaps forward, no stunning insights. Just another fine outing from Jupe Jupe. I test drove this one (literally) on a recent unseasonably warm winter afternoon. It sounds great with the windows down, and the propulsive rhythms are perfect for such times.

I'm often suspicious of music that connects so instantly. So to acknowledge: This is a real sweet spot for me. Nothing hidden there. But even within that, Jupe Jupe consistently satisfies. So when I say no news is good news, well, I'm not lyin'.

If you need convincing, "How Could We Both Be in Love" should set you straight. First, the last two words of that chorus (not included in the title) are "with you." The song is driven by a sax. Heartbreakingly bitter and totally lovely. Just another Jupe Jupe set. Anything but ordinary.
