3/9/20:
Elec-whoa

Hailing from Derry, Ireland, this band (despite some very "one-man-electronic-outfit" vibes, this is a band) isn't discriminating in its sound. There are Tangerine Dream moments, there are Orb moments and there are Therapy? moments. To be fair, there's a lot more Tangerine Dream and Orb than Therapy?, and these modestly propulsive instrumentals have a way of vibing straight into the subconscious.

Ramshackle Rodeo
Back from the East
(self-released)

Embracing an almost drone-line structure at times, Ramshackle Rodeo incorporates the full electronic palette, moving from chilly to playful with ease. Despite the generally cheerful veneer, a sense of foreboding pervades.

This is perhaps easiest explained by the final track, "Duga 3." The name comes from a Chernobyl-era early warning system used by the Soviets, and the music was inspired by the radio signals that system created. The track itself is unsettling; the back story might be even more so.

Another fruitful trip back to the 80s. Ramshackle Rodeo doesn't give in on its vision, and the album as a whole is greater than its wonderful parts. Quite the introduction.
