Feed the hurl

"We would love to wreck your neck!!!" is how Space Parasites closes the introduction on its web site. There is plenty of potential for that in the music.

(Zoundr)

This Berlin-based band utilizes an 80's-style thrash sound and, um, a totally unique vocal. Nadine Woelk hurls her voice from somewhere halfway down her throat, resulting in something that sounds like a cross between hard core punk shouting and the dying squeals of a rabid squirrel. Think Linda Blair in the exorcism scene--just a couple octaves higher.

So that's cool. The music is suitably energetic, with some fine riffage. There's probably a bit more punk than bands like Megadeth and Exodus employed back in the day, and these songs are well-crafted and move along with alacrity. Many songs clock in at less than three minutes. The carnage piles up quickly.

The album title says it all. Space Parasites succeed on attitude and desire. The band's energy leaves this album almost glowing with power. These folks can wreck my neck any day. Throttle and release, over and over. Lovely.
