12/2/19:
Reaching back

There are six tracks, but just four songs. That's not a complaint. Well, it is, 'cause it would be nice to get even more of this propulsive fuzz-pop. The band's bio references playing with the Breeders and Flaming Lips, and the sound does have a certain turn-of-the-last-decade-of-the-last-century feel to it. The songs, though, are something else.

The Cordial Sins
In Memory EP
(Diversion Records)

This set was written on the road while touring for the band's last album, and that rough-and-ready feel translated nicely into the recording. This wasn't recorded live-to-tape, but it sure has that immediate feel.

And that serves these deceptively simple songs well. The Cordial Sins know how to sell a song, and all four here have been given the proper foundation.

A far too short set, but perhaps there's perfection in brevity. Perfect for the last rays of a global warming summer.
