A collection of four singles released over the course of the year. And singles are appropriate for this power-pop outfit that never fails to be ambitious.

The Hengles The Hengles Do It Again! EP (TCBYML)

Imagine Matthew Sweet in his densest moments (Blue Sky on Mars, perhaps), but a bit more psychedelic and rootsy. And a lot more focused. So, maybe 100% Fun. Sweet is the most obvious reference to my ear, but the Hengles come at the sound from the other side.

That is, these songs are crafted to a shine, and then they're bashed out in the studio. The modestly off-hand performances are a lot more Jeff Lynne--even if nothing else is.

There's more Hengles to come, and more fun to figure out. This short set is a blast of gorgeous pop, and it's probably the perfect blast of gooey goodness. Can't wait to hear what's next.
