9/26/19: Into the night Floriane Miny moved from France to Oslo. She found it dark. She recorded some of the most minimalist experimental ambient I've ever heard.
Not so much the sound of what happens in the dark as much as the sound of what might happen in the dark, these pieces explore recesses that most people prefer to leave alone. Miny takes "less is more" to an extreme, but in her hands this mantra has become dogma. And a welcome one at that. On the surface, I suppose this album makes little sense. But this set is so far beneath the surface that light cannot penetrate. That's the point. As Dr. Lizardo said in Buckaroo Banzai, character is what you are in the dark. This album is all dark. Who are you? More importantly, do you really want to know? That's the real question nofilter is asking. And this album is a fine guide to finding your own answer. Thrilling stuff. |
